Director
The Galion Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated leader to serve as Director. The City of
Galion lies in the southeastern corner of Crawford County, Ohio and has a population of 10,500. The community offers an excellent school system, community-supported park and recreational facilities, and a vibrant small-town charm.
The Galion Public Library building is a beautiful Carnegie building built in 1904. It is one of the few Association public libraries in Ohio and governed by a group of approximately 40 members through a nine member board. It has a staff of 14 (7 full time staff, 5 part-time, and 2 student pages).
As the chief administrative officer, the Director is responsible for monitoring, coordinating and supervising the operation of the library. The Director will work closely with the Board to set policies and make recommendations for the future; with the Fiscal Officer to set the budgets and oversee spending; and with the staff to guide the day to day operations of the library. The Director will also be the library representative to the community, encouraging visibility for the library and promoting its programs. The director will also work with the board and community to maintain the integrity and historical charm of the original Carnegie building.
The ideal candidate will have a
MLIS and at least three years supervisory experience in public libraries. Communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with others, and strong leadership qualities are necessary. An aptitude for using technology, raising funds, and writing grants is strongly desired. Familiarity with SirsiDynix Symphony is an asset.
This position offers a hiring salary range of $55,000 to $65,000 dependent on experience and qualifications. Benefit package includes comprehensive health care, HSA, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), as well as vacation, sick leave and personal days.

Qualifications desired:
Excellent communication skills required. Must have good computer skills. Must be able to stand at a desk for extended periods of time as needed. Must work well with the public and be able to pass a criminal background check. Must have reliable transportation, and a valid driver's license is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a part-time, 20-26 hours per week position.
Will work at
circulation desk, attending to the following duties:
- checking items in and out
- placing holds on materials for the patrons
- packing/unpacking deliveries from other consortium libraries
- assisting with the processing of new materials
- making faxes and photocopies
- booking internet computers
- helping with readers' advisory
- occasionally shelving materials
- Majority of circ-desk time will be upstairs; however, there might be times when coverage is needed downstairs
Books on Wheels (BOW):
- selects items for homebound patrons from our collection and other collections twice a month
- checks items out to patrons' accounts and keeps a record of past selections
- promotes, answers questions, and signs people up for BOW
- works with delivery volunteers to get materials to patrons
Magazines
- processes new magazines so they can be utilized by the public
- works with the director to evaluate the magazine collection annually,
with an eye towards addition/deletion of titles
- withdraws and prepares old magazines for the annual magazine give-away
Serves in any area of the library at the request of the director.
Performs other duties as required.
Compensation
$12 per hour with no additional benefits
